A Different SUV for my Dad

My dad just turned in his Ford Explorer and is looking to lease something else. He already expressed that this drive was a little taxing on his back and that it had way too much power for Florida… So he's looking for a 4 cylinder or a small 6, and it needs to be SUV in view of the fact that he enjoys mountain biking, etc… and it's the only big vehicle in the household, I used his car quite a few times to transport possessions around given that I own a Honda Accord and my partner a Scion Xa.

Anyway, the price range; it's positively less than US $30k taking into account taxes and fees.

He did like the Mazda CX7, but it's way too inefficient when it comes to power, the Turbo version has superb engine capacity and handles well, but for the price he feels he could do better.

He chanced upon a wonderful bargain at Volkswagen for a Jetta SportWagen 2.5L 5 cylinders… but he is concerned with dependability in view of the fact that our Audi Q7 and VW Beetle were constantly facing problems. I suggested that with a 24-month lease he shouldn't face any difficulties (in contrast to driving the Audi like he had for about 6 years).

Next there is the contemporary Kia Sorento, a pretty darn good car, one could feel excellence all over when you look inside… Dad even suggested that he might have purchased the vehicle by now if not for the overtly irritating salesman… I feel inculing taxes it gets to $30k or so, but he seems to be fond of the vehicle a lot.

I feel he prefers the Toyota RAV4 , I'll get him to test it out, its cost seems about right.

Any suggestions? k to k or so? The Volkswagen Tiguan feels like a bad choice and so I told him not to trouble checking that, also the BMW X5 is too pricey.
